What is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy - CBT- is a scientifically proven therapy, for the treatment of insomnia, panic attacks, drug abuse and addictions. In therapy specific researched treatment programmes, for each condition, are tailored to your individual problem. Through this process people find what was an insoluble problem is completely resolved.

It is also proven to assist people to better manage long term health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, chronic pain, and cancer. Through Cognitive Behaviour Therapy you will learn how to control the impact of the condition on your life; you will learn how to conquer avoidance and how to access social supports, and how to deal with uncertainty. You will learn coping and self management strategies.

You will have confidence that you can control your life.

You will feel better and happier.

How does Cognitive Behaviour Therapy differ from Counselling?

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is NOT counselling. Counselling is generally an unstructured and non-directive form of psychological support or intervention, whereas, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is structured; it follows a specific format. The evidence, through research, on the effectiveness of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is significant. An important factor in the effectiveness of the therapy is the ability of the therapist to structure therapy.

What happens in a session?

The first and most important part of therapy is developing our understanding of your problem and your goals of therapy. The first session or two are devoted to this.

We then tailor the appropriate treatment plan to you. From this point most people experience a marked improvement in how they feel.

As you progress through the programme you will feel more in control and you will feel happier.
